Call for Films! No Submission Fees Until 12/31/08!!

The International Black Women’s Film Festival is now accepting film submissions for 2009! Big changes this year, specifically, NO VHS tapes. Sorry, but they’re too bulky, too difficult to transport, and can get de-magnetized…which has happened.

Not to fret, I’m accepting DVDs, but you can also submit your film for consideration for the online film festival. (Just URLs, no “embed” codes, please.) Submissions to the online film festival are always free!

What else is free? Film submissions until December 31, 2008! Are you a previously selected filmmaker at the IBWFF? Then it’s free for you, too!!

Check out more at the site created just for filmmakers who are interested in submitting work. Remember, submissions are free until December 31, 2008…for realsies.

Latest News: Body of young boy in car identified as Jennifer Hudson’s nephew

Here at the International Black Women’s Film Festival, we’d like to offer our heartfelt prayers and condolences to Jennifer Hudson and her family, in light of the recent tragedies.

If you have not heard, Ms. Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother were brutally shot and killed in Ms. Donerson’s home, and Ms. Hudson’s nephew was kidnapped. Ms. Hudson’s brother-in-law was arrested in connection with the homicide. To date, a boy’s body was found in a car matching the description of the car used in the abduction. The child has not been identified by authorities and no further information has been released.

Leslie Uggams & Top Model’s Yaya DaCosta Star on Broadway

The multi-talented singer and actress Leslie Uggams stars in the revival of Leslie Lee’s 1975 autobiographical play “The First Breeze of Summer.” Former contestant on Tyra Bank’s America’s Next Top Model, Yaya DaCosta (one of my favorites) blossoms in the play as Ms. Uggams’ younger self.

The New York Times praises Ms. Uggams’ and Ms. DaCosta’s performances. Leslie Uggams has starred in nummerous plays, television series, and films, but may be best known for her role as Kizzie in the groundbreaking television mini-series “Roots.”

Eve’s Bayou Meagan Good is Busy, Busy

Hollywood can’t get enough of the gorgeous Meagan Good, who has three films in the works! Best known for her work in Stomp the Yard, Roll Bounce, and the haunting Cicely in Eve’s Bayou, Ms. Good will star as Luba in upcoming production of Saw V…or better known as, the never-ending-story. (Saw is the horror franchise that just keeps on giving…even when you ask it to stop.)

Not to be outdone by the grossness of Saw, she will add another creepy flick to her repertoire and star alongside everyone’s favorite leading man, Idris Alba (“The Wire”) in The Unborn, set for release in 2009.

Idris and Meagan will play two characters helping Gary Oldman (who plays a rabbi), to save a young girl’s life from the slow possession of a child who died in the holocaust. Keep your eye out –and the other one in– for Ms. Good!
