Catch Jeryl Prescott on AMC’s “The Walking Dead”

If you’re like me, zombies hold a special place in your heart. Well, the same great station that brought you “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” has done it again!

“The Walking Dead” is another post-apocalyptic zombie infestation a-la-”28 Days Later”. Even the initial premise was reminiscent of “28 Days Later,” specifically, a man waking up from an extended coma just to find that everyone’s gotten a lot deader than the last time he saw them.

Bright spots include smart editing and spot on acting by some new faces, including the lead actor Andrew Lincoln –another Brit playing an American southerner… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

A highlight to their casting is that of Jeryl Prescott as one of the office workers that our lead stumbles upon during a nail biting (not literally) escape from a horde of zombies.

What makes her role brilliant is that she’s not the usual gum popping, eye-rolling, smart ass, slang-slinging minx that seems so popular for Black actresses in film and television. The character Jacqui is –wait for it– a City Planner who knows the ins-and-outs of Atlanta’s cityscape and sewers.

You may have seen Miss Jeryl in the movie “The Skeleton Key” as Mama Cecile. She’s set to star alongside her current cast mate Michael Rooker in “Bolden!”, a biopic of the legendary jazz trumpeter Buddy Bolden.

Catch Jeryl Prescott in “The Walking Dead” on Sundays at 10 p.m. on AMC, and be sure to catch up on the past three episodes.

“The Walking Dead” premiered on Halloween (October 31, 2010), so you still have time to catch up and discuss it at the water cooler!
