New mommy Jennifer Hudson (DREAMGIRLS, SEX & THE CITY) helps Oprah Winfrey to kick off her 24th season of the Oprah Winfrey Show on ABC. Both ladies are Chicago’s favorite divas, and to celebrate their achievements, the show is being broadcast on Michigan “Magnificent Mile” Avenue, the “Rodeo Drive” of Chicago.
Daily News reports that Janet Jackson is set to perform a tribute at the MTV Video Music Awards (“VMA”) for her brother Michael Jackson, who passed away June 25, 2009. The VMAs have always featured ground-breaking acts, or performers who want to make a statement, whether it’s a tribute (remember Sean Combs’ tribute to the Notorious B.I.G.), or a comeback (remember Britney Spears), the VMAs are sure to attract a large audience.
The tribute precedes the controversial, yet star-studded, tribute for Michael Jackson, which is set to occur in Vienna, Austria.
According to Variety.com, Hollywood’s Bomb-girl Halle Berry has signed on to star in the thriller “Dark Tide,” which starts filming later this year in South Africa. The film is about a diving instructor who returns to the murky sea after being attached by a Great White shark. Social Capital Films is financing between $15-$20 million for the film.
Keeping on her sci-fi roll, actress Zoe Saldana (Star Trek, Drumline) will star as Neytiri in director James Cameron’s new, 3-D, sci-fi thriller Avatar.
Avatar is in post-production, and is scheduled for release in December 2009. It’s already generating a buzz, and judging by the trailer, it’s sure to keep you guessing!
